CCRC Continuing Care Retirement Community a full-service facility. Licensed by the Department of Social Services, to contract for the provision of care for more than one year. Generally includes three levels of care: independent, assisted living, and skilled nursing care. CCRC requires entrance fee be paid by the applicant upon admission. Life care facilities, a subset of CCRC's provide all levels of care, including acute care and physicians services for the duration of the person's life. RCFE Residential Care Facility for the Elderly is a licensing category under the State of California, Department of Social Services. Living arrangements for residents generally over 60 years of age provide varying levels and intensities of care and supervision, personal care, or protective supervision. On the M.A.P.S. description sheets the terms "independent" and "assisted living" are to be considered in the RCFE category. Independent ...designed for independent seniors who choose to reside in a community with other seniors. Offered amenities may include but are not limited to organized social programs, transportation, meals, laundry and housekeeping. The cost of such services may be included in the basic fee or may be extra depending on the facility. Assisted living Services vary by facility. In addition to those offered for independent living, the following are included: assistance with medications, bathing and dressing. Other assisted living services may include escorting to meals and activities, and limited help with toileting and incontinency. Board & Care Have RCFE licensure Are typically six bed, usually converted homes (by widening doors, and adding hand rails) Have high staffing ratios Provide dementia care There are pets around High emphasis on gardens Have specialized training of caregivers Have at home physician visits Wheelchair and walkers are welcome Special dietary needs are easily accommodated Make available, transportation to outside appointments Skilled nursing A facility licensed by the California Department of Health Services which serves the long term care needs of those persons who may be wheelchair bound, bedridden, or who need constant supervision. Custodial care is integrated with medical nursing, psychosocial and rehabilitative services on a continuous basis. Secured or locked unit A secured facility has devices to halt or slow the exit of residents who should not wander for reasons of dementia or personal safety. A locked facility has locked perimeters.
